Documented date context
Hawaiʻi celebrates Lei Day on May 1, also described as “May Day is Lei Day.” State records document the territory’s 1929 proclamation and later legislative recognition of the cultural occasion. The label “National Lei Day” in the former URL did not signify a separate U.S. federal holiday; it referred to the same Hawaiʻi-centered celebration of making, giving and wearing lei.

How to read the days-until answer
The headline measures the gap between today’s calendar date and the next Lei Day date; it does not count today as an extra day. The live clock separately measures time remaining until the start of that date on your device. Time zones and daylight-saving changes can make the live hours different from calendar days multiplied by 24.
